Win the Wind: The 2026 Baku Marathon Returns to the Caspian Coast
BAKU, Azerbaijan – The energy is building as the capital prepares for the 9th edition of the Baku Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2026. Organized under the auspices of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, this year’s event carries the iconic slogan "Win the Wind"  inviting thousands of local and international runners to challenge themselves against Baku’s famous seaside breezes.

The Route: From State Flag Square to Sea Breeze
The 2026 edition introduces a scenic and challenging course designed to showcase the modern beauty of the city. The race will kick off at 10:00 AM at State Flag Square, taking participants along the picturesque Seaside Boulevard.
Unlike previous years that circled back to the Olympic Stadium, the 2026 route stretches further along the coast. Runners will pass through Baku White City and head toward the outskirts, ultimately crossing the finish line at the vibrant Sea Breeze Resort in Nardaran. This new finish line offers a festival-like atmosphere right on the beach.

Race Categories and Participation
Organizers are expecting a record-breaking turnout of 25,000 participants. While the premier event is the full 42-kilometer marathon, the event remains inclusive with several distances:
  • 42 km Marathon: For seasoned long-distance runners.
  • 21 km Half-Marathon: A popular choice for club runners.
  • 10 km Run: Ideal for casual joggers and beginners.
Registration is open to all residents and visitors over the age of 18. In keeping with tradition, special registration categories are available for students to encourage youth fitness.

Prizes and Fan Experience
The Baku Marathon is as much a celebration as it is a competition. Fan Zones will be set up at various points along the boulevard, featuring live DJs, interactive games, and cheering stations. The event will culminate at Sea Breeze with a massive post-race concert featuring popular local artists.
For those eyeing the podium, the stakes are high. The top three male and female finishers in the main marathon will receive:
  • 1st Place: 6,000 AZN
  • 2nd Place: 4,000 AZN
  • 3rd Place: 2,000 AZN

The registration window closes on April 25, 2026. Interested participants can sign up online at the official website, marathon.az, or visit physical registration desks located in Baku’s major shopping hubs: 28 Mall, Ganjlik Mall, and Deniz Mall.
