Highland Park
Highland Park, also called Viewing Park is considered one of the most beautiful parks in Baku City. The naming Viewing Square is not accidental – the whole Baku, including its Maiden Tower, Flame Towers, Flag Square, etc. are seen from the Highland Park – the panorama is charming!
In the daytime, every city corner and every leaf are illuminated by brightly shining Baku sun, and a completely different look the city gets at night lights -both views will forever be captured in your memory!
Palace of Shirvanshakhs
You probably would not include historical places to your “things to do in Baku” list. However, don’t make quick decisions and let the Palace of Shirvanshakhs totally change your mind. Walking across the Palace will take you many years back to XIII – XVI centuries, like this place, perfectly reflects the atmosphere and the beauty of the architecture of the Medieval Ages.
The Palace of Shirvanshakhs’ served as the summer residence and the courtroom for formal meetings. However, no remains of inscriptions survived until the present.
Since 2000 The Palace of Shirvanshakhs’ along with the Maiden Tower is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The entrance to the Palace costs 15 AZN for adults.

Carpet Museum in Baku
You may wonder, how can carpets surprise a person? But, visiting the Carpet Museum makes it clear why this museum is so popular among both the tourists and the local residents.
Carpet weaving has been one of the earliest forms of art in Azerbaijan and it is a national heritage to our country. Therefore, the museum was formed with the prime purpose of preserving and demonstrating the incredible examples of Azerbaijani carpets.
Currently, this museum comprises not only carpets but also other Azerbaijani artworks.
Those intricate patterns and the exact lines illustrate how skilled the Azerbaijani craftsmen are!

Fountain Square, as its name suggests has several wonderful fountains embellishing the square. Besides them, however, various human-type figures are established on the streets of the Square, which frequently attract tourists’ attention to take photos.
Just as the Old Town, Fountain Square is one of the most lively and visited places in Baku.
Philarmonic Garden
Visit Philarmonic Garden -definitely thing to do in Baku!
Philarmonic Garden is one of the most beautiful gardens in Baku with strikingly beautiful and refined design. Every person finds one’s own associations with this place: some compare it to Saint-Petersburg, while to others the garden reminds of Paris. It is an ideal place for those who want to have a seat in a quiet place and enjoy the bird-singing.
This Garden was established no less than a century ago and during the whole period of its existence, the naming of the garden has changed several times. Walking across the garden, it is not the rare thing to hear playing melodies, which makes this place even more magical.
Heydar Aliyev Center
Would you like to see how does one of the most beautiful buildings in the world looks? Then don’t forget about one more thing to do in Baku – visit Heydar Aliyev Center!
The construction of Heydar Aliyev Center was finally finished in 2012 and now it is considered one of the brightest examples of modernity in Azerbaijan. The architect of this artwork is worldwide-known Zaha Hadid, thanks to whom the building has been awarded for the “Design of the Year” nomination in 2014.
The Center is of unusual and wavy shape so that it is difficult to guess where the building starts and ends. Additionally, there is a park on the territory of the Center where local residents frequently go on picnics.
Exhibitions are not a rare thing here and we strongly recommend you to visit at least one of them. All-inclusive entrance fee is 12 AZN. However, you can get tickets for separate exhibitions 🙂
Old City
Let’s move to the beloved place of both most of the tourists and the local residents – Old City, also known as Inner City! Traveling to Baku without visiting Old City is like visiting Pisa and do not take a photo with the Leaning Pisa building!
Our Old City has a lot to show and charm you with – almost every corner is another world. Being there, you can clearly imagine the life of Azerbaijani people many centuries ago – most of the old buildings are still kept along with the new creatures which bring more colors to this place. This is the reason why it is called Old City, you feel yourself here far from the 21st century. Inner City can not be confused with any other place in Baku -the Old city is surrounded by thick walls protecting the Azerbaijani citizens from the attacks in the past.
Although the Old City is itself a must-see place, it also comprises the places which you must see! Those are the Shirvanshakhs’ Palace and full of mysteries Maiden Tower, which together will take you to the Medieval Age period even more. Both of these buildings listen to UNESCO World Heritage. Take Old City Tour and explore them!
A-and of course, how can you leave the country without the souvenirs and tasting national dish?! In the Old City, there are many local restaurants and a vast collection of the souvenirs created in the style of Azerbaijani culture, so you can have some to remember Baku.
Baku Boulevard
Besides visiting places of interest in Baku, another thing to do is to have a walk across the Baku Boulevard.
The Boulevard is located on the shore of the Caspian Sea, so even just a quick walk there breathing in fresh sea air can become a more pleasant activity than you could imagine 😉 A great number of colorful flowers are blooming along the boulevard making this part of Baku more fairy.
The place where you can ride a bicycle, enjoy the attractions or just sit at the seashore.
Caspian Beach
If you are lucky to visit Baku in summer, then rush to the beach!
Just imagine: you are lying on the beach, the sun is shining with its warm rays and gentle summer breeze is blowing… The best method to have a rest from the noisy cities!
You can choose any of the local beach resorts as well as go to the aquaparks. Most visited of these resort places are – Amburan, Sea Breeze, Dalga beach etc.
