Gabala Tour Highlights: Shamakhi Juma Mosque, Gabala CityNohur Lake, Yeddi Gözal Waterfall, Tufandagh Ski Resort.

Tour to Gabala will start by picking up you from your hotel. Places that you will visit during the tour:

Shamakhi Juma Mosque – On the way, you will have a stop in Shamakhi Juma Mosque that is built-in 743, which is the most ancient known mosque in the Caucasus region.

Nohur Lake – A very beautiful lake. You can try horse riding and boat trip.

Yeddi Gozel Waterfall – One of the most beautiful waterfalls of Azerbaijan.

Tufandagh Winter & Summer Resort – In the resort, you can try skiing, the cable car that takes you from down to the top of the mountain to see the spectacular beauty of the mountain and city of this region.

Gabala Shooting Centre – For lovers of shooting, this center is an unreplaceable place. You can try arrow shooting as well as rifle shooting there during Gabala tour.

Gabala is located on the territory of the Shaki-Zakatala zone, almost on the border of Dagestan and Georgia. In the vicinity of modern Gabala are the ruins of an ancient city, which is about 2000 years old. The area is rich in nut and chestnut forests, each of which is about 500 years old. Chestnuts blooming in spring are a uniquely beautiful sight.

On the way to Gabala during the Gabala tour, we will visit firstly Shamakhi Juma Mosque. This Azerbaijani mosque is the oldest and largest in the Caucasus. According to legend, it was founded in the 8th century, when Shamakhi was chosen as the residence of the Arab caliph. The exact date of its construction is 744, which was established as a result of research conducted by a geological commission from Tiflis headed by Prince Shakuli Qajar. This date was determined by the Arabic inscription on the facade of the Juma mosque, indicating the 126th year of the Muslim calendar as the date of foundation.

It was at this time that the construction of new religious buildings (mosques) began on the territory of modern Azerbaijan. The Juma mosque in Shamakhi is the earliest in the Caucasus after the Derbent Friday cathedral mosque, built-in 734.

The mosque was practically rebuilt, but it remained on the old foundation and preserved the basic principles of the structure. It also has three halls, the central hall is blocked by a huge dome, and two side rooms are smaller with domes; under the central dome, there is a belt of windows decorated with openwork grilles. The whole facade is decorated with ornamental decor.

Lake Nohur in Gabala is one of the most popular tourist destinations in our country, and you will take a tour of this lake during our Gabala tour. The lake is unusual, beautiful, surrounded by mountains and reed beds, and resembles a mirror in which wooded slopes look. The peculiarity of this reservoir is that although it is located high in the mountains, it is easily accessible, you can get here by car and even stay in a local recreation area.

Located 3km east of Gabala with its unique nature, the Lake Nohur resembles a ring spur, located in a natural hole between the Gullurun, Goydag, and Yumru mountains. At times of severe winter, the surface of Nohur Lake is completely frozen. In the winter of 1953, the ice cover on the lake surface was 40-50 cm. It was. The residents of the nearby village of Nohurqishlag using this force brought fire and building materials from the sky to the north of the lake, passing through the force of live power and technology. The fact that the surface of the dam was completely covered with ice was repeated in the winter of 2007-2008.

Also, in our Gabala tour, you should definitely visit the waterfall “Seven Beauties”, it is located in the outskirts of Gabala, near the village of Vandam. The waterfall consists of seven cascades, hence its name. If you want to admire this natural wonder, then you should go there very early. A waterfall is a place of pilgrimage for tourists from all over the world, the pedestrian route is usually crammed with cars and buses, and there is always a crowd of admiring spectators on a narrow wooden staircase. Some consider this place holy. Hypertensive patients and people suffering from cardiovascular diseases, before visiting the waterfall should consult a doctor because at the height it is breathtaking. Tourists are allowed to climb only to the fifth step, and only brave souls risk climbing to the fifth, sixth, seventh steps.

Tufandag Resort is located 4 km from the city of Gabala – the ancient capital of the Caucasus Albany. The distance from Gabala International Airport is 20 km, and 220 km from the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. The resort has all the conditions for an excellent family holiday. There are training schools with qualified instructors who will help you not only get up on skis and snowboards for the first time, but also improve your skills and reach a new level. Children will love the modern playgrounds. Babysitting services are available in the hotel complexes. The Tufandag complex can accommodate up to 3,000 guests at the same time. In addition to the 5-star hotels, the complex includes restaurants, cafes, bars, and recreation areas, ski and adult skiing, rent, and repair equipment. Tufandag Gabala Ski Center roads have a variety of complexities, and the total length of ski routes is 17 km. Skiing is divided into 3 groups: for beginners, for those with the ability to drive, and for full-time professional skiers.

What is a shooting club “Gabala”?

And the best part of the Gabala Tour is a shooting club. This is an amazing institution where a professional sports base and a social and entertainment enterprise are combined. That is, on the one hand, sportsmen-shooters are trained here, and on the other, almost everyone, even tourists, can come here and shoot. On one side, significant people like to come here. On the other, it does not affect the regular life of the club.

Short stay made memorable

This short trip of ours became the most memorable one, so far. We were picked up from our hotel in Baku, having spent a great evening, leisurely in the morning by a very shy driver, named Nile and her tour guide, Nergez. We stopped by the almost 4 hour drive from Baku to Qebala, in the middle of nowhere and found place for breakfast. Welcomed by a refreshing Azerbaijan tea, to be drank with variety of naturally hand made jam as a substitute of Sugar cubes. Reached Qebala during the stay and straight away were whisked to our luxury room on the 5th floor at one of the best resort in Qebala called, The Tufandag Moutain resort. After relaxing for a bit, we made our way to the cable car, the entrance to which was through the hotel. Went from 1500 mtrs to 4200 mtrs at the top of the mountain to enjoy the breathtaking view. Nile was very helpful in suggesting us places to visit for dinner and shisha. Next day was trip filled with adventure as we were mesmerized with the "seven beauty waterfall", the steps to which are really steep. We clubbed our mesmerism with some adventure in trying the shot gun shooting at the nearby shooting range. Realized me of childhood days, which came handy, while shooting target (12 out of 25). The whole trip was made quiet enjoyable, thanks to Nergez for her chattering and giving us insight about her country, at times. Will suggest the tourists, if they are short on time while on their trip to Azerbaijan, not to make a day trip to Qebala as this could not just be tiring, you would also miss the scenic beauty that Qebala has to offer. Thanks to Foaud, the co owner of Guided Azerbaijan, who really made this a trip to come back for. exclusive_bm August 14, 2019
