What You Will See During Baku Old City Tour:
This 15th-century royal complex is the crown jewel of Baku Old City sightseeing and a highlight of any historic walking tour in Baku. The palace of Shirvanshahs includes a mosque, bathhouse, mausoleum, and the Divankhana courtyard. Although modest in appearance, the complex is one of the key UNESCO sites in Baku and provides insight into the history of the Shirvan Empire. The palace used to serve as the main residence of Shirvanshah rulers and is a must-see during your Icherisheher tour.
Inside, you’ll find rooms showcasing traditional Azerbaijani life, historic clothing, jewelry, and royal furnishings. Visiting with a guide will enhance your understanding of this cultural gem.
Getting Lost in the Labyrinth - Wandering through the narrow, stone-paved alleys of Baku Icherisheher is a journey back in time. You don’t need a strict itinerary. Instead, let your senses guide you through hidden courtyards, vine-wrapped balconies, and artisan workshops. Residents still live in these centuries-old homes, cook traditional dishes, and socialize in the winding streets. This living museum is the soul of the city and a highlight of any Baku City Tour.
One of the most iconic landmarks in Azerbaijan, the Maiden Tower is wrapped in mystery and legend. It once served multiple purposes-from a lighthouse to a defensive structure-and today it offers panoramic views of the city from the top. Your Baku Old City guided tour would be incomplete without a stop here.
The tower’s unusual shape and function have sparked many theories, making it one of the most studied monuments in Azerbaijan. While exploring, don’t forget your camera-the view from the top is breathtaking.
Be sure to visit the Miniature Book Museum, one of the quirkiest attractions in the area, located near the Palace of the Shirvanshahs. Entrance is free, and the museum houses thousands of tiny books, including the world’s smallest printed volume. It’s a unique part of Baku cultural tours.
During the Icherisheher walking tour, you’ll pass historical bathhouses that still function today. One such hammam offers services on specific days for women (Monday and Friday) with traditional bathing rituals. It’s a glimpse into the daily rhythm of Baku’s past and present.
Don’t miss the vibrant souvenir shops tucked away in the old streets -one of the most authentic things to do in Baku Old City. These aren’t just tourist stops-they offer handmade crafts, carpets, and antiques that reflect the true oriental spirit of Baku Old City.
A Taste of Tradition - In the evenings, you’ll often see locals brewing tea on real samovars with coal, right in the middle of a cobbled lane. Watching this traditional ritual adds an authentic flavor to your Old City Baku tour

I booked 2 hours tour for my first trip in Baku. It was business trip for 14 days. That’s why, I tried to visit some places during my visit in Azerbaijan. Old city was very clean and surrounded with walls from all sides. We went to Shirvanshah’s palace as well - if you are keen on the history it is worth to visit there. I would recommend this tour to all tourists and business people as well.
When we visited to Old town of Baku, we tried going up of the tower. You will see on the up surrounded walls by glass. Anyway you will be able to see the all part of the old town. It was really nice. Baku is windy city, but don't worry for that. You will see a lot of restaurants, then you can warm up with tea when you catch the glasses :) Overall we loved the all experience which is organized by Fuad. Special thanks to our guide Emin for the previous tours and driver Ramil. His car also was very clean all the time, although it was black car. Highly recommended!
With lots of restaurant and cafes calling you to seat and drink something :) We walked more than 2 hours inside of Old city to get the all knowledge about history and culture.I am really thankful to my guide Fatima for memorable tour!
The tour was amazing, the guide is well educated and we learned a lot from her. Definitely will recommend it for everyone of my friends who are coming to Baku and everyone who is interested in Baku’s history.
It was at a very pleasant time walking very well coordinated by our tour guide Zahra. Enjoyed a lot.
