10-Day Caucasus Adventure

Take a short drive to Gobustan, where you’ll discover 40,000-year-old rock paintings at this UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the archaeological museum and the remnants of ancient settlements. After returning to Baku, enjoy time to explore Fountain Square, with its boutiques, cafes, and vibrant atmosphere, immersing yourself further in local Azeri culture.

Depart for the Caucasus Mountains. Along the way, stop to witness the striking mud volcanoes, the 15th-century Diri Baba Shrine, the Yeddi Gumbez Tomb, and Shemakha's Juma Mosque. Continue to Sheki, a city rich in trade and craftsmanship, where you'll stay overnight.

Explore Sheki’s lively bazaar and the summer palace of the Sheki Khans, known for its beautiful frescoes and stained glass. Visit Sheki Museum and the Fortress before departing for the Georgia border. Once you cross, meet your Georgian guide and driver. Head to the charming town of Signagi and check into a boutique hotel. Discover the local culture through wine-making, vineyards, orchards, and local crafts. Participate in baking traditional Georgian bread, known as shoti, in a round brick oven. Visit a winery for a tour and tasting of aromatic Georgian wines.

Spend the morning exploring the cobblestone streets and scenic views of Signagi. Then, head to the Alaverdi Cathedral and monastery complex, followed by visits to Shuamta churches. Experience Georgian wine-making in a village wine cellar and tour the 19th-century Duke Chavchavadze Estate with its beautiful gardens. Taste Tsinandali wine before stopping at another local winery.

Today, taste homemade wines at local cellars and learn the process of making Churchkhela, a sweet Georgian wine snack. En route to Tbilisi, visit Bodbe Monastery, where St. Nino, who converted Georgia to Christianity, is buried. After exploring the local history museum and another wine cellar, head to Tbilisi for a delicious dinner at a local restaurant and overnight stay.

Explore Tbilisi, the picturesque city on the banks of the Mtkvari River. Wander through the narrow streets of the old town, which boast a blend of religious and secular architecture, from churches and synagogues to mosques and 19th-century houses with wooden balconies. Visit the therapeutic sulfur baths, the State History Museum, the Sameba Cathedral, and the Dry Bridge market, where local art and antiques are sold.

Take a morning drive to Mtskheta, the ancient capital and religious heart of Georgia. Visit the UNESCO-listed Jvari Church, perched on a hill, and the 11th-century Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, where the Robe of Christ is believed to be buried.

Travel along the famous Georgian Military Highway towards the Caucasus Mountains. Stop at the 17th-century Ananuri architectural complex overlooking the Zhinvali Reservoir. Continue to Kazbegi (Stepantsminda), a town surrounded by snow-capped peaks, including the towering Mt. Kazbeg. From there, take a 4x4 vehicle through alpine landscapes to the Gergeti Trinity Church, located at 7,119 feet. If the weather allows, you may see one of the highest glaciers in the Caucasus. Return to Tbilisi for dinner.

Enjoy your final moments in Georgia with some leisure time or last-minute shopping. Your guide will transfer you to Tbilisi International Airport for your flight back home.
