From the Caucasus’ oldest mosque to the stunning Khan’s Palace and ancient Albanian Church, this Sheki excursion from Baku is ideal for lovers of history, architecture, and authentic local crafts.

Your Sheki day trip from Baku starts with pickup from your hotel or any desired location in the morning.

📍 Shamakhi Juma Mosque

On the way to Sheki, your first stop will be at Shamakhi Juma Mosque, the oldest mosque in the Caucasus, built in the 8th century. This historical site is a perfect introduction to Azerbaijan's rich Islamic architecture.

📍 Arrival in Sheki & Visit to Upper Caravanserai

Upon arrival in Sheki, you’ll explore the Upper Caravanserai, an impressive 18th-century stone-built complex that once served as a resting place for Silk Road traders. Part of this majestic building now operates as a boutique hotel.

📍 Sheki Khans Palace

Continue your Sheki sightseeing tour with a visit to the famous Sheki Khans Palace, a masterpiece of 18th-century architecture. The palace was built without a single nail and features vibrant stained-glass windows (shebeke), elaborate frescoes, and a symmetrical garden once filled with tall Italian poplars. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Azerbaijan’s most iconic landmarks.

📍 Sheki Fortress Walls

Right near the palace, remains of the fortress walls of Sheki still stand, offering a glimpse into the city’s defensive past.

📍 Sheki Historical Museum

Among the many historical places in Sheki, Azerbaijan, the Sheki Historical Museum offers a fascinating look at the city’s legacy in trade, craftsmanship, and silk production.

📍 House of Handicrafts

As part of your day trip to Sheki, the next destination is the House of Handicrafts, where local artisans produce beautiful handmade items such as stained glass (shebeke), pottery, embroidery, and wooden artwork. Prices are very reasonable, and you’ll have the opportunity to take home a unique souvenir that reflects the spirit of Sheki’s traditional craftsmanship.

📍 Shebeke Workshop & Sweet Shops

Explore Sheki by witnessing how traditional “shebeke” stained-glass windows are crafted using wood and colored glass — all without a single drop of glue or a single nail. You’ll also stop by the city’s famous pastry shops to try Sheki sweets like Sheki halva and piti.

📍 Sheki Bazaar

Your private Sheki tour continues at the local bazaar, where you can browse and buy fresh mountain honey, locally grown nuts, dried fruits, and traditional herbal teas.

📍 Kish Village & Albanian Church

The final stop of your full-day Sheki city tour is Kish village, located just 12 km from Sheki. You’ll visit the ancient Albanian Church (1st–4th century), believed to be the first Christian church in the Caucasus, founded by the Apostle Elisha. Surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery, the church is a spiritual and architectural gem with deep historical roots.

Great private Tour to Sheki and Gabala

My sister and I booked a private tour to Sheki and Gabala with Arranged by Azerbaijan and had an excellent experience! Lamia was super easy to communicate with to arrange our trip. She accommodated our interests and requests and was very transparent in discussing logistics, itinerary, and plans. Our guide Murat Ali was also excellent. He was very knowledgeable and spoke great English. He showed us all the important and interesting sights in Sheiki and Gabala, as well as touristic spots on the way there. The Hahn’s palace in Sheki is beautiful and it is clear why it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We particularly were impressed at how Murat Ali accommodated a last minute request of ours to add a stop at a local winery! Overall we very much enjoyed our trip and would recommend working with Arranged by Azerbaijan for any sightseeing or travel in the country.

Far but worth it

Sheki tour was fun, bear in mind its further away from Gabala about an hour so make sure to keep that in mind. But in all it was fun especially how the windows of the Sheki palace was made and built. It was fun and informative tour.

Beautiful tour

Sheki is a beautiful town in Azerbaijan and should not be missed. I loved everything about this small town and views were picturesque. Our tour guide Jamal & his driver were great and Jamal even made sure to help us with ordering the vegetarian food by translating our requirements to hotel staff and recommending few dishes. Overall Sheki tour is something every person visiting Azerbaijan for the first time should have on their itenarary.

Great 2 day cultural and nature tour in north west Azerbaijan and the mountains

We took an amazing private 2 day tour that covered sites in Shamakhi, Gabala, and Sheki. We stayed overnight in Gabala. The tour was arranged by Guided Azerbaijan and was a great mixture of nature (Gabala) and cultural sites (Shamakhi & Sheki). We had a great guide, Ulya, and driver, that took full care of us, explained very clearly the sites, and took us safely and promptly from place to place, from the pick up at the hotel until the drop off back at the hotel after the tour. They arranged the itinerary so we would use the time most efficiently, and see the sights at the right time of day where the light was the best and we were lucky to have very good weather. We asked to stop frequently to take great pictures, and enjoyed the views and discussions in the car. Also the choices for lunch during the tour were excellent. Would highly recommend this 2 day tour and both Ulya the guide and the driver !!
