Step Back in Time

The day started with Nurlan, the guide, and our driver picking me up at my hotel. It’s a nice touch and I appreciated it. We drove out to Gobustan to see the mud volcanos and the rock art. We stopped at an intersection to pick up a taxi to take us out to the mud volcanos. It was this little purple Lada that had to be as old as me, and I’m not young. It felt a little sketchy at first, but go with it - it’s one of the funnest parts of the day. You bounce around this unpaved, heavily rutted/washed out area to get to the volcanos. You hike up the side of the volcano just a little and you can hear that “blurb blurb” sound of pockets of air escaping through the mud. It’s fantastic. And the view out to the Caspian Sea is amazing. We head back and pick up our car and drive over to the museum and petroglyphs. From everything found in this area, archeologists have been able to piece together the story of this region reaching back thousands and thousands of years. Standing in a place with such deep roots in history and the evidence of the people who have lived there… it will reach into you. Especially as Nurlan is there to give you so much insight and context to everything. And a strong arm when you need a hand in a few of the tougher spots during the hike. On the way back to Baku we were able to stop at for prayers (if so inclined) and then headed out to Ateshgah to visit the Fire Temple. Again - this is one of those places so full of history - and Nurlan really provides great information without making you feel like your in a lecture. It’s a great conversation. We left there and headed to Yanar Dag to see the live fire that still burns as the heart of Azerbaijan. I had a moment here. It was peaceful and calm and a little rainy. I sat and watched the flames and felt so connected to a moment in history. On the way back to the hotel we made a stop at the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center to appreciate the architecture of this beautiful, female-designed building. And really, I <3 Baku. Thanks Fuad for letting Nurlan be my guide for the day, he’s amazing at what he does. MsMely November 2, 2021

An absolutely fantastic day out with a fantastic guide.

After a wonderful trip with Guided Azerbaijan prior to this, we decided to use them again for this trip. We're so glad we made this decision. Elnara, who was our guide, was amazing. Starts out by going to Gobuston. The museum is excellent - informative without being overkill. Elnara, helped to bring it to life further. The park itself is fascinating and not to be missed, and the surrounding landscape moonlike. Then it goes to nearby mud volcanoes via a Larder which is a fun bumpy ride. These volcanoes are very intriguing. The views from here are also spectacular. The trip goes back into the city, via the beautiful mosque, and then to the fire temple and fire mound. Both sights are also interesting. The temple has a unique history, which Elnara explained very clearly. The tour ends at the architecturally stunning cultural centre. Whilst these places are all worth seeing, Elnara brought them all to life. As well as being knowledgeable, Elnara was extremely accommodating and friendly throughout. It should be noted that I was not feeling too well throughout the tour. Elnara kept checking up on me to see if I was ok, and we even made a detour to the beach to give me some fresh air which helped me carry on throughout the day. Strongly recommended. Would advise taking sun cream/lotion Stumodernart September 20, 2022

Must visit places

Our guide, Elçin picked us from our hotel in the morning and we drove out of the city. Views from the top were nice and it was educating to see all the rock arts. The Ashetegah temple is a must visit. Vivek November 16, 2022

Great tour to ancient heritage sites of Gobustan!

Great tour organised by Fuad to the ancient sites to witness stone age petroglyphs and mud volcanoes. It takes a 45 min journey one way to get there from Baku. Danny L March 29, 2023

Azerbaijan....its just SO interesting...and I mean REALLY!

If you think Azerbaijan is a young, uninteresting country which is just all about producing oil, and has no history or culture, think again. Of the 3 countries in between the Black and Caspian seas, it is probably the least visited, but, in my book, that can only be a good thing. Azerbaijan is one of the most underrated places I've ever been, and this tour will explain why. You will visit a beautiful mosque, mud pits which, unlike those at the dead sea bubble constantly, neolithic petroglyphs, the last remaining fire mountain which never goes out, and the fire temple inside the caravanserai at Atashgah. you also drive past the oldest oil wells in the world...who knew. Taking you around will be the very unassuming, softly-spoken, Kurt Cobain look-alike, Adil, who was obviously incredibly knowledgeable but was not obsessed with the sound of his own voice, or showing off, god love him. I thoroughly recommend this trip, as a person who is not really into guided tours, and, like everything else in Azerbaijan, its cheap as chips. On a European safety note...Azerbaijani drivers hardly ever wear seat belts, and use their phones, or chat constantly while driving. when I put on a seat belt in a taxi in Baku, the driver looked like I had just insulted him.🤣 but....really if you are looking at this, you must be thinking of going. in the world of Nike....just do it. lushchica April 12, 2023

The driver and tour guide arrived at our hotel on time, the minivan was nice, clean and comfortable. We visited the Gobustan Rock art, also having a nice detailed tour at the centre. We stopped by the Mud volcanoes another interesting site! The Fire temple, Fire Mountain were very interesting! I really recommend the tour with Guided Azerbaijan! Thanks for organising!
